From the President.....
The close of a very successful year has arrived and so much has been achieved in such trying times.
With support from an outstanding team of staff, volunteers, professional services, local businesses and our sponsors we have come through a myriad of adverse events smiling and feeling proud. We were thrilled to be featured in Horse and Pony magazine this December and feel it is a fitting finale to our year.
Many riders have achieved in a variety of new challenges, dressage events, achievement certificates 1-4 and incredible success stories in their own personal goals. Without doubt this lifts the spirits of not only the riders and their caregivers but also the CRDA family who keep the whole process moving on.
It has been wonderful to see the return of events in the park that help support us financially and give extra interest to our riders, long may this continue and a big thank you to the understanding from our riders when we have to accommodate dates for arena hires.
This report is brief because I feel pictures speak louder than words so we have a visual treat in this last newsletter of the year. I wish all of you a wonderful Christmas, a healthy New year and a relaxing summer.

Becky's Coaching Programme!
Hello RDA supporters, my name is Becky Hadfield; I am one of the coaches here at Christchurch RDA. I teach our riders in sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; and I am blessed with the support of a fantastic team of volunteers, without whom I could not do my job.
Within my 2 days, I am fortunate to have a broad spectrum of riders from very able, to full therapy needs; so I have a wide variety to coach at RDA.
This final term of 2022 has been a culmination point for a lot of my riders, as most of them will be finishing up their time with RDA at the end of this year; and so during this term I have been working through our new “Rider Award Scheme”.
A dedicated group of RDA personnel have been working on the creation of a set of 4 progress awards for our riders. These awards consider the limitations that could be in place physically and mentally, but have achievable goals at each level in riding, horse care, and social skills depending on their individual abilities.
I will have 6 riders achieving level 3, meaning they can confidently get themselves ready to ride, they can groom and tack up their pony (with assistance as required), they can mount and dismount by themselves, ride and steer their pony around a course of Cavaletti jumps; they can trot (with or without assistance), untack, and have knowledge of horse feed, care, behavior, tack parts, markings, and points of the horse.
It has been so much fun for me to use these award templates which have given an additional focus of learning for our riders and allowing us to introduce different aspects of horse care into each session in addition to teaching riding skills. The riders have really risen to the occasion, and thoroughly engaged and have learnt through repetition, encouragement, and team skills within the groups.
As we head to the end of term, we only have 2 weeks to go, the penultimate week will be our jumping competition, this is where the riders ride around the course of jumps on their horse, then those that can, dismount and run around the course on foot, to see who the fastest time can be, horse or human! The riders always love this game – it really brings about their inner competitive spirit – cheering on their teammates and clapping as they go, everyone doing their best.
Then the final week of term is devoted to Christmas games with costumes, music, and prizes for all!
Thank you once again to my wonderful team of volunteers (you know who you are….) and our amazing steadfast horses, without which we could not provide the rewarding sessions at CRDA

This Term Christchurch RDA had an offer they could not refuse.
The “All Oz Car Show” run by Holden Enthusiast Club Christchurch were holding their annual Cruise and Show and keen to make RDA Christchurch their nominated Charity.
All we needed to do was turn up and hold a bucket. All proceeds from the donation buckets and the Car entry fees would be donated to Christchurch RDA. Pippa put a team of volunteers together and off we went.
On Saturday evening a “Cruise” was organised to commence from Bishopdale Village Mall and Halswell New World where our collectors were surprised at just how many cars joined in.
The venue for Sunday morning was the Agricultural Show grounds, in the paddock area just inside the gate - so in our own back yard. RDA parked up the truck and displayed pictures and pamphlets for people to check out and anyone making a donation was given a book mark.
Pippa is a clever lady and along with volunteers, invited a couple of special helpers along to collect donations - two very chatty happy Riders, Paris and Hannah. Both of these girls have a constant smile on their faces and enjoy a good chat - very few Car enthusiasts manage to pass them by without popping some money into their buckets. In all a total of $3,874.34 was donated to Christchurch RDA. A big thank you to all those volunteers who came along and helped to collect.

Volunteer Assistants
If you enjoy working with Horses and /or Special Needs persons, Christchurch Riding for the Disabled needs Volunteer Assistants!
We hold sessions 9:00am - 2:30pm each weekday during school terms.
Our Coaches depend on volunteers to lead horses and work with riders. Training is given to enable volunteers to feel confident and safe.
We have had a wonderful response from radio adverts and our many leaflets being displayed on various Community Notice Boards. However, we still need your help - if you can spare one day a week to assist our wonderful Coaches in their efforts to give our Riders the benefit of a therapeutic riding session we would be most grateful.
