From the President...

Welcome back
Our riders are so happy to be back
Tēnā koutou katoa,
This term has again been problematic because of Covid, but the strength of our group remains its riders, volunteers and staff.I believe that the past experience of our lockdown in 2020 has contributed to a quick and safe re-opening under level 2 on the 9th of September. Keeping it safe, keeping it simple but effective, the first sessions were very well attended.
Our equestrian centre relies on hires, grants and donations for a large part of its running costs and the up keep of our wonderful team of horses. This is going to be a challenge as we see out the rest of 2021. Make no mistake the ability of our organisation to keep running during the myriad of challenges that Covid 19 pandemic has introduced, is a testament to the passion of our team members pouring their heart and soul into the organisation and to the support we get from many “Good sorts”.
Our new horses have settled in well and our strong team of volunteers have had numbers boosted with some wonderful new ladies and gentlemen giving up their time to help. I hope many more will realise the importance this support gives our riders and coaches and come and join us. I wish you all a problem free and healthy few months as we run through to term 4 and Christmas and thank you for supporting us.
Kia atawhai ki a koe anō me atawhai ki ētahi atu .
Be kind to yourself and be kind to others
Pippa Parker.

What we are all about at CRDA! (testimonial)

“Mauri has been attending Christchurch RDA since 2009 when he was five years old. He’s now seventeen and we have greatly appreciated all our years with these amazing horses and wonderful coaches and volunteers. Through the years Mauri has ridden Connie, Gypsy and currently Spatz. He loves his time with the horses (as you can see in this photo); and he also greatly enjoys his time with the volunteers. Mauri responds so positively to their words of support and encouragement. Riding provides Mauri with both the motivation to sit upright (which is very challenging for him) and also a range of movements

that are extremely beneficial to his physical therapy goals. Our whanau are so grateful to the horses, staff and volunteers of Christchurch RDA for the many years of therapy and joy they have given to Mauri.”

Spring is in the air!

It is so nice to think the days are getting warmer.
Even our horses are getting into the spring feeling! Although the sun is shining it can still be cold in the arena, so layering up is the best idea.

It goes without saying that we wouldn't exist without our amazing equine friends. We currently have 12 horses in our care. As a not-for-profit organisation that does not receive any government funding we are always looking for ways to engage with people and obtain funds because lets face it - these animals are not cheap to care for.
Horse Sponsorship is a wonderful way to support us. Sponsorship per horse is $50 a year. You can read more about our horses and sponsor a fury friend here:

Kia ora!
Our horses recharged their batteries over lockdown and were very happy to come back to their riders!
Feeling so grateful for all the volunteers that make CRDA possible. We really appreciate you and couldn't do what we do without you!
Spring is in the air... The horses love grooming each other and all the blossoms around the park look beautiful.
Looking forward to seeing happy riders in term 4.
Ngā mihi nui,

Out & about in springtime is a great feeling for riders, horses and volunteers!

Coaches Corner

Hi I’m Simone the Wednesday and Thursday coach. I was a Wednesday volunteer before starting my Coaching journey. I worked overseas for years with international riders/vets/trainers for polo, hunters, jumpers and dressage. I travelled around the world but was primarily based in the UK and USA. I decided to return to NZ with my daughter Josie, who is now 11. I completed an undergraduate Science degree in Biology and Psychology focusing on
Behavior papers at UC. RDA is the combination of both worlds 🙂 I'm currently working towards a Master’s degree for Forensic Psychology. Our family consists of an 18-year dog (Lily), 3 spoilt guinea pigs (Taylor Swift, Ninja and Chewbacca), and an off the track trotter (Ralphy) who is learning to be a pet.

Volunteer Assistants

If you enjoy working with Horses and /or Special Needs persons, Christchurch Riding for the Disabled needs Volunteer Assistants!
We hold sessions 9:00am - 2:30pm each weekday during school terms.
Our Coaches depend on volunteers to lead horses and
work with riders. Training is given to enable volunteers to feel confident and safe.
We have had a wonderful response from radio adverts and our many leaflets being displayed on various Community Notice Boards. However, we still need your help - if you can spare one day a week to assist our wonderful Coaches in their efforts to give our Riders the benefit of a therapeutic riding session we would be most grateful.

If you are over 16 years old and can give a few hours, please contact us with your preferred day.

Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Annette
