A warm welcome back to everyone.
With so much going on in the world it can be hard to stay in good mental shape. Please check in on your friends, family and check in with yourself. We have been working hard behind the scenes to make the start of Term 3 an enjoyable and safe experience.
You may have noticed that all our riders and caregivers come through the main front glass doors; please continue to do this and also sign in and wash your hands straight away. Volunteers will be coming through the backdoor where their car park is situated and washing their hands straight away also. It is comforting to know that we as New Zealanders can be proud of the fact that we have no current community transmission cases of COVID-19. The horses, staff and the coaches are ready for a fantastic term three.
Don’t forget to look at our new website. Your support means so much to our riders and horses during these difficult times.
Take care and welcome back.

Emma’s Horse Care Report
Hi everyone, can you believe it's August?
We have a pretty exciting term lined up with two new horses on trial. Gem and Zeus will let us know what they think of RDA life.
A big thank you to everyone who looked after our horses during lockdown. It was certainly much longer than we thought it would be but they have all had a couple of sessions back in the arena and are ready to get into their routine again.
Gumboots are high fashion around RDA at the moment and the rain was much needed but here's to many sunny days to come.
We are always looking for that perfect CRDA pony. We are currently on the hunt for an
11-13hh pony to join our special equine team.

“CRDA has been a hugely rewarding, special and valuable experience, that my son Ollie and I look forward to every week.
The volunteers who work with Ollie are some of the kindest and warmest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The whole organisation is incredible, and I can’t speak highly enough of how beneficial this riding therapy has been for our little man.
The horses are hugely calming and regulating for him and I have been blown away at how far he’s come in the 2 terms he’s been riding. This amazing organisation is one of a kind and deserves all our support.”

Volunteer Assistants
If you enjoy working with horses and /or Special Needs persons, Christchurch Riding for the Disabled needs Volunteer Assistants!
We hold sessions 9:00am - 2:30pm each weekday during school terms.
Our Coaches depend on volunteers to lead horses and work with riders. Training is given to enable volunteers to feel confident and safe.
We have had a wonderful response from radio adverts and our many leaflets being displayed on various Community Notice Boards. However, we still need your help - if you can spare one day a week to assist our wonderful Coaches in their efforts to give our Riders the benefit of a therapeutic riding session we would be most grateful.

If you are over 16 years old and can give a few hours, please contact us with your preferred day.

Charles's Rider Report
We're back! ... and so it's another hearty "welcome back" to all riders and their families!
I know that it seems like ages since you were all at your CRDA riding sessions, and even our horses have been getting a little restless, but we can now put the troublesome past behind us and get back to doing what we all love to do. Let's make this a really great Term 3 for all of us! I've had a chat with the horses and they have all agreed to put in an extra effort this term to create a new dawn of CRDA riding experiences ... and well, we can't ask for more than that, can we!
Now, I was going to tell you a little story in this Newsletter, but Debbie has instructed me to be brief, due apparently to time and space constraints concerned with putting this on our new website. However, I read between the lines and what she really seemed to be saying was that no one wants to listen to the ramblings of an old fool, so just keep it brief! As I know that a gentleman can never win an argument with a woman, I shall on this occasion comply with her demands, ... however, at some point in the future, this old fool will slip a story into the Newsletter, hopefully undetected! Even though each new generation believes that they have the answers to all of humanity's woes, it is sometimes useful to dally a while and quietly listen to the stories of those who have seen a little more of life. In their own way, horses do this too, and it's all part of what helps to keep a herd together and functioning safely. How did horses get so smart?!
Have a great term everyone, and safe riding!
As always, I am available to be contacted regarding any riding concerns that you may have, either by phone or email. Also if you have any drawings, photos, writings that depict your riding experiences, then we would love to receive them for inclusion in our newsletter!
